2012 Homecoming Queen and King Crowned

ALLIANCE, Ohio — Michelle Porter and Travis Irwin were named the University of Mount Union’s Homecoming Queen and King during halftime of the Mount Union vs. Capital football game on Saturday, October 13.

Porter, a biology major of Akron, OH, is a member of Tri-Beta, the national honor fraternity for biology and has consistently been named to the Dean’s List while at Mount Union. She has served as a First Year Experience Advocate, a Preview and Orientation guide and an executive board member of Up ‘til Dawn. She is the risk manager for her sorority, Delta Sigma Tau, of which she has been a member since her freshman year. She is also a member of the cheerleading and cross country teams and is involved in numerous community service efforts including Relay for Life, St. Jude’s Research Hospital and the Alliance Neighborhood Center.

Irwin, a marketing major of Sebring, OH, is also known as the University mascot, MUcaw. This is Irwin’s second year serving as MUcaw and he has represented Mount Union in this capacity at both on-campus events and community activities. He has served as a Preview and Orientation guide, a Raider Guide for first-year students and a residence life staff member. He is actively involved in intramural sports and is a member of the Raider Programming Board. Irwin also volunteers his spare time to assist with Sebring’s fifth and sixth grade boys’ basketball team.

Others in contention for queen included Annie Cotton, Alexa Farmerie, Alicia Switzer and Kelsey Tomlinson.

Cotton, a psychology major of Navarre, OH is treasurer of the Black Student Union, chairperson of Up ‘til Dawn and a member of Alpha Delta Pi GAMMA. She has served as a Preview and Orientation guide and has been named to the Dean’s List.

Farmerie, an early childhood education major of Manor, PA, is president of Alpha Chi Omega and a member of ASCD, Kappa Delta Pi, Order of Omega and the Pre-Health Professional Club. She is also a member of the cheerleading team and has been named to the Dean’s List.

Switzer, a public relations and psychology major of Strongsville, OH, is public relations chairman for Student Senate and a member of Alpha Chi Omega, the Pre-Health Professional Club, Raider Relief and the Student Alumni Association. She has also been named to the Dean’s List.

Tomlinson, a public relations major of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, is historian for Alpha Psi Omega, a vice president of the Dynamo, vice president of Kappa Kappa Psi, president of Lambda Pi Eta, historian for Mu Phi Epsilon and a member of Alpha Xi Delta, Mount Union’s PRSSA and Student Senate. She also serves as director of WRMU 91.1 FM, works for Studio M and has been named to the Dean’s List.

Others in contention for king included Kyle Edwards, Steven Kandray, Josh Sleutz and Corey Unckrich.

Edwards, a biochemistry major of Atwater, OH, is president of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, vice president of Mu Phi Epsilon and a member of the American Chemical Society, Kappa Kappa Psi, Order of Omega and the Pre-Health Professionals Club.

Kandray, a marketing major of Boardman, OH, is secretary of the American Marketing Association, chairperson of the Raider Programming Board, director of WRMU 91.1 FM and a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.

Sleutz, an accounting and human resources major of Kidron, OH, is senior class president, a member of Student Senate, a member of the Mount Union barbershop quartet and is an assistant resident director. He has worked as a community educator and has been a member of the accounting club.

Unckrich, a middle childhood education major of Alliance, OH, is treasurer of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a member of Alpha Phi Omega and Kappa Delta Pi. He has also been named to the Dean’s List.
