48th Annual ArtFest Held at Mount Union

ALLIANCE, Ohio –The University of Mount Union hosted the 48th annual ArtFest on Sunday, Aug. 12.
The event, sponsored by both the University and the Alliance Chamber of Commerce, featured many original pieces by local artists. Numerous media including watercolor, oil, ceramics, drawings, jewelry, stained glass and woodworking surrounded the Campus Lakes.
During the event, more than 30 artists presented their unique pieces for display and sale. Work was judged by Diane Belfiglio, an adjunct professor at Walsh University and a private art teacher. Her art collections can be seen in the Itchiku Kubota Art Museum in Tokyo, Japan, the Butler Institute of America Art in Youngstown, OH and the National First Ladies Library in Canton, OH.
Dr. Fredlee Votaw of Alliance was the Best of Show winner for the event. In the painting category, Isaac Stanley of Alliance received first place, Kathleen Gray Farthing of Alliance earned second place and Chelsea Eggleston of Alliance earned third place.
In the other media category, William Stryffeler of Beloit took first place, Marcie Applegate of Youngstown was awarded second place and Beth Mettle of Akron received third place.
In the fine crafts and ceramics category, Trevor Lare of Alliance was awarded first place, Maria Riedel of Akron earned second place and Linda Grubb of Salem received third place.
Winner in the junior category was Elise Shelby Griffiths of Warren.
In addition to the ArtFest, “A Taste of Alliance” took place simultaneously, showcasing food and beverages for sale by local restaurants and caterers.
