51st Annual ArtFest is Saturday

ALLIANCE, Ohio — The University of Mount Union will host its 51st annual ArtFest from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 19 around the Campus Lakes.
Sponsored by Mount Union and the Alliance Chamber of Commerce, ArtFest will feature original works by area artists in various media including watercolor, oil, collage, graphics, drawings, fine and functional crafts, photography, jewelry, pen and ink, sculpture, glass mosaics, printmaking and mixed media works. In addition, the category of functional craft has been added this year. Functional craft includes such works as jewelry, fiber,woodworking, glass, enameling, lights, mirrors, purses/bags, candles and soaps.
To date, this year’s ArtFest will feature 37 art and functional craft vendors, including Bob and Darlene Speicher, Diana Baylor, University of Akron, Troll Hole Art Emporium, Platz Images, Jennifer L. Worden, Handwoven Treasures/CR Beads, Cutting Board Art, Sanducci Arts, Cheryl's Studio/Urban Romantics, Sheila Galeano, University of Akron, Sew Simple, Salamander Dreams, Blackberry Forge, Maiown, Chrystal Robinson-Shofroth, Boomdyada, Brian Snyder Photography, Hedges Costume and Prop Shop, Historical and Theatrical Costumes, Kaleidoscope Colors, Sew Unique, Carolyn Parker, Joe Toporcer, A Touch of Elegance, Dream In Color Jewelry, Creative Crafty Closet, Craft Spot, Jackie Sabbato, Jeff Piper, Kathleen Gray Farthing/Fine Arts, Mary Walker, Copeland Community, Tony Contini, Jennifer Michel, Kent State University, Jayden Houchen, Dawnett Mullen, Paris Studios, Olive Branch Ministries Kettle Corn, Collins-Sibley Cabinetworks, Aggies Attic and Olivia Carolyn Morey/Marlington High School.
Live demos will take place throughout the day exhibiting displays of hand-made pottery and woodturning.
In addition, “A Taste of Alliance,” coordinated by the Alliance Chamber of Commerce, will take place simultaneously, featuring food and beverages for sale by area restaurants and caterers including Frank’s Family Restaurant, Rose’s Hillcrest Market, College Inn, Kathy’s Korner, Vert Deli, Pucci’s Pub and Vino and Chives Grille.
Entertainment will be provided throughout the day by Mount Union and Alliance area musicians. Adam Infantino, a Mount Union student, will perform from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by Mary Pusateri from noon to 2 p.m. Rock, Salt & Nails will conclude performances from 2 to 4 p.m.
This year, ArtFest will again host a children’s activity from 10 a.m. to noon in which children can create their own masterpieces in a coloring activity celebrating the 100th anniversary of Alliance Area Chamber of Commerce. Their works will be displayed at the Children’s Gallery from 2 to 4 p.m.
Jurying of Fine Arts will occur from 10 to noon. This year’s judge is Daniel T. Chrzanowski, an artist, painter, printmaker, wood worker and luthier of classical guitars. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Columbus College of Fine Arts and worked at American Greetings for more than 37 years as an illustrator, artist and manager of the Media and Techniques Studio. He has exhibited in numerous juried art shows and galleries and was featured in an exhibit in Mount Union’s Otto Art Gallery in March of 2015. The fine arts award ceremony will take place at 1 p.m.
Cash awards and ribbons will be presented to the top artists in each category, as well as a Best of Show.
This year's ArtFest will be held in conjunction with Mount Union's Family Day and the Mount Union vs. Muskingum Football Game.
