Recognized Honoraries

Alpha Lambda Delta A national scholastic honorary for freshmen recognizing academic excellence. To be eligible for membership, students must have a 3.5 grade point average after the first semester or a 3.5 cumulative grade point average at the end of two semesters.

Alpha Mu Gamma A national foreign language honorary recognizing achievement in the field of foreign languages, its purpose is to stimulate a desire for linguistic attainment, to encourage an interest in the study of foreign languages, literature and civilizations, and to foster a sympathetic understanding of other peoples and international friendship.

Alpha Psi Omega A national dramatics honorary to promote a high standard of scholarship and work in drama. Students are elected on a basis of active participation in theatre production.

American Chemical Society A student affiliate chapter open to any student working toward an undergraduate degree in a chemical science or related discipline.

Beta Beta Beta A national honorary society for majors in biology. It recognizes those majors who excell academically, and in doing so, promotes excellence in the biological sciences at Mount Union.

Blue Key Honor Society A national honorary for junior and senior students which recognizes students for their accomplishments in the areas of leadership, character, scholarship and service to the College and community.

Gamma Sigma Alpha A national academic honorary fraternity and sorority that encourages, promotes and rewards members of the Greek community to excel academically. Membership is limited to junior and senior members of social fraternities and sororities with a 3.5 or above cumulative grade point average.

Kappa Delta Pi An international honor society in education. The purpose of this honor society is to promote excellence in and recognize outstanding contributions to education.

Kappa Kappa Psi A national band honorary with the purpose of promoting the existence and welfare of the College bands and cultivating at large a wholesome respect for its activities and achievements. To be eligible for an invitation for membership, students must be enrolled in one of the bands during the calendar year and have satisfactorily completed twelve hours of college classes.

Lambda Pi Eta The purpose of this association is to provide a forum of interaction between students, faculty and professionals interested in the speech/communications discipline.

Omicron Delta Epsilon An international economics honorary society with the purpose of recognizing scholastic attainment in economics and emphasizing the professional aspects of economics as a career field for service in the academic world, business, government and international organizations. Membership is open to students of junior or senior standing with an overall grade point average of 3.0 and at least three courses (12 hours) in economics with an average of 3.0, one of which must be 300-level or above.

Order of Omega A national leadership honorary recognizing outstanding junior and senior fraternity/sorority members. New members are accepted through an application and interview process during fall semester and again during spring semester. The Pi Omicron chapter of The National Order of Omega was chartered at Mount Union in 1997.

Phi Sigma A national biology honor society. Members are selected from qualified biology majors.

Pi Mu Epsilon A national mathematics honorary society promoting scholarly activity in mathematics among students and faculty.

Psi Chi A national honor society in psychology. The purpose is to encourage, stimulate and maintain excellence in scholarship of the individual members in all fields, particularly in psychology, and to advance the science of psychology.

Psi Kappa Omega The all-college academic honor society with the purpose of promoting scholarship and friendship among the faculty, students, and graduates of the College. The Council of PKO, consisting of the faculty elects members who are members of the Society. Students considered for membership are juniors and non-graduating senior students with a grade point average of 3.8 or above. Graduating seniors with a grade point average of 3.5 or above will be considered, but membership is limited to 10 percent of the graduating class. Integrity, leadership and intellectual and cultural interests are also considered.

Sigma Pi Sigma A national physics honor society recognizing scholarly achievement in the study of physics. Membership is limited to students who are scholastically in the upper one-third of their class, have completed General Physics I and II, and have taken at least one upper division physics course.

Sophomore Service Honorary A local honorary with goals including serving the community through local service projects, assisting fellow students and faculty members and promoting leadership and scholarship in the freshman class.

Tau Pi Phi A national honor society which is open to students who have completed at least eight courses in Accounting, Business Administration and Economics with an overall grade point average of 3.0 and a 3.3 average in their course work in the department. The purpose of this organization is to recognize high scholastic attainment in business, accounting and economics.
