Message from the Chair

"Pursue the things you love doing, and then do them so well that people can’t take their eyes off you."  -Maya Angelou

If you've made it to this webpage, there is a very good chance that you have discovered your passion.  Most likely, theatre and/or music has been a part of your life, and now you're preparing to take an important step forward.  But the love of art making is simply not enough, you must be ready to put in the effort.  The American author, John Irving, said that "If you presume to love something, you must love the process of it much more than you love the finished product".

At the Mount Union Performing Arts Department, you'll find students who share your love of performing and creating and are equally committed to making this a part of their life, and perhaps, careers.  You'll also discover faculty members, still working professionally, who are here to guide you through this crucial part of your journey.

Our highly qualified faculty guide students through degree programs for those who anticipate careers in music and theatre and also provide instruction in a variety of courses for majors and non-majors alike. Our students can choose from:

The Bachelor of Arts degree in music
            No concentration
            Performance concentration
            Composition concentration
            Double major

Theatre/Music Double Major Bachelor of Arts degree*

Bachelor of Music degree in music education

Bachelor of Arts in Theatre
            Design/Technical Track
            Musical Theatre Track**
            Performance Track

Minor in Music

Minor in Theatre

*The double major option provides a full experience in music and theatre and offers a unique scholarship opportunity.

**The Musical Theatre Track requires fewer credit hours than the double-major, though requires a minor.

I invite you to experience our intimate class sizes, our exciting guest-artists, the newly-constructed Giese Center for the Performing Arts, Shakespeare At The Castle, our numerous ensemble, chamber, solo, and theatrical performance opportunities, the family atmosphere, and all the things that make the Performing Arts Department at Mount Union an exceptional place to be.
