Teaching Area(s): Accounting

Mount Union has a large number of internship opportunities available for students in many areas of study. These internships allow students to apply what they have learned in the classroom to the workplace.

Accounting Learning Objectives

Accounting is a vital part of every business. While tracking income and assets over time, accountants engage in a wide range of activities. These include, but are not limited to, tracking financial performance, tax strategies, and quality management. If you would like a challenging, fast-paced work environment, then this major is for you.

As members of a diversified profession which is growing rapidly, accountants are more in demand than ever before in private industry, federal and state governmental agencies, certified public accounting firms, and education. Accountants are needed for work in areas such as audit, budget analysis, finance, and management.

As a part of this field, you will get to learn how business works. Accounting is continuously evolving and the work is challenging, yet stimulating. One important perk of this major is that jobs are continuously opening up. Employment of accountants and auditors is expected to grow rapidly through the year 2014. An increase in the number of businesses, and the constantly changing laws and regulations will drive business growth. Many accountants also move on to become successful heads of large corporations because they understand what drives business and profits.

At Mount Union, coursework in the major is challenging, but rewarding. The University of Mount Union provides solid preparation for students interested in the field, and also to those interested in becoming CPAs.

To promote interest and awareness, The Mount Union Accounting Club exists and helps students in the major, and even those just interested in the field, come together and learn about the profession and the career opportunities it offers. Membership is open to current students who've successfully completed at least one accounting course.
