Picking a University

My previous volleyball coach went to Mount Union and encouraged me to visit. After my visit, I fell in love with the campus and the people here. I also received the Dean’s Scholarship, for which I am very grateful. The people at Mount Union make it feel like a second home. Everyone here is welcoming and willing to do anything for you to see you succeed. The best advice I can give to high school students looking at colleges and universities is to find a place that makes you feel welcomed. It is extremely important to find a college or university that wants you to succeed, and you can tell this by just talking to those on campus and making connections. Another piece of advice would be to get involved. You will meet the best people when you step out of your comfort zone and join different organizations and groups on campus!

Finding a Career Path

I chose primary education because I want to make a difference in young children's lives. I want every child to have a safe, welcoming place to learn. Also, watching children understand and grasp a new concept is extremely rewarding. My ultimate career goal/dream is to teach in a Stark County school district ideally teaching kindergarten through second grade. Mount Union is preparing me to accomplish this goal by giving me hands on experience in these school districts and being able to make connections within them.

Opportunities at Mount Union

I feel that my experience with the Integrative Core has made me a more well-rounded person overall. I also know it will make me a better future educator for my students. My favorite experience so far at Mount is being able to student teach in local districts. Mount has given me great experiences in many districts and in many different grades. It is amazing being able to get hands on experience in more than one district and more than one grade since all school districts and grades are different.
