MY EXCEPTIONAL STORY

Choosing Mount
I learned about Mount Union from my high school track coach and researching on the Internet. I chose this school because of the beautiful campus, updated exercise equipment, and close proximity to home. I appreciate the faculty’s willingness to go out of their way to help us have a personalized and positive experience.

Campus and Community
Mount Union has small class sizes and the professors take the time to get to know you on a personal level and notice when you are not in class. My favorite place on campus is the MAAC. I also really enjoy the Nature Center because it is a beautiful place to study or enjoy a walk.

Endless Opportunities
Mount Union is opening my eyes up to all the opportunities I will be faced with once I graduate. I am getting a chance to go abroad with my engineering class this summer to Guatemala to install solar panels, which will give me experience working abroad. Mount Union is giving me an opportunity to make a real difference in many people’s lives using my engineering skills. Also, the liberal arts education allows us to experience history, music and cultures while learning math and science. Liberal arts expand our horizons, and we become more cultured and overall better workers.

Civil Engineering
My grandpa is a civil engineer and from what he has told me about what he does, it seems exciting. You get to go to work every day knowing that you are going to help create something that will be around for many years, like a hospital, school, dam, or bridge. You are really making a difference in hundreds of lives.

Hands-on Experience
I am currently building a chicken coop for the Nature Center with my engineering class. We get to design it from the ground up while considering a real client’s ideas, and then we actually get to build the structure ourselves.

Exciting Classes
My favorite classes so far have been German II and Engineering this semester. I have always loved the German language and culture, and I am hoping to live and work there for a couple years after graduation. Engineering has allowed me to have hands-on experience with robotics and construction. Getting to do actual projects is important to me because you can’t learn about what working as an engineer is really like by listening to a lecture.

Inspiring Professors
Dr. Helen Muga is my favorite professor at Mount Union. She loves to travel and is very knowledgeable. She is an inspiration to me because I would also love to travel the world while helping through engineering, and she has shown me that being a female engineer is a great opportunity that I shouldn’t pass up.

Future Goals
My ultimate career goal is to become a civil engineer for an engineering firm that will allow me to travel. I want to travel the world, and engineers have many opportunities for this.
