Allen Green ’77 Named Chair of Mount Union Board of Trustees

August 18, 2015

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Allen Green ’77, president of H-P Products, was elected chair of the Mount Union Board of Trustees during the Board’s annual spring meeting.

Green joined H-P Products, Inc. in 1984 as controller. Since joining the company, he has served as the company's CFO, vice president of finance and manufacturing, tubular products general manager, executive vice president and currently serves as the president and chief operating officer.

Green earned a Bachelor's degree in accounting and mathematics from Mount Union. He is actively involved with Mount Union, previously having served as vice chairman of the Board of Trustees and on the Board’s Business Advisory Council. He has also worked with the Bringing Executives and Students Together (BEST) mentoring program for more than 10 years.

Green serves as president for Jobs for Ohio Graduates, is a former board member for the Stark County American Heart Association, is a charter member of Leadership Stark County and has taught project business through Junior Achievement for more than 20 years. Green is an active member of Vistage. He is married to Carol, also a graduate of Mount Union, and the couple has two children, Scott (Nazlie) Green and Julie (Mike) Thornton. He and Carol reside in North Canton, Ohio.

“I am humbled and honored by this appointment,” Green said. “I can't imagine a higher honor than to be entrusted with one's alma mater, its care and future. The University of Mount Union has always occupied a very special place in my life, which has shaped it in so many important ways. To serve on this board with so many other talented and capable leaders is truly a privilege.”

As a graduate of Mount Union and a resident of Stark County, Green appreciates and understands the significance of the institution to the local economy.

“This is an important juncture in Mount Union's history. These are rapidly changing times in higher education and we need to create a more flexible mindset to navigate these challenges and remain a strong liberal arts institution. I look forward to working with Dr. Merriman and his staff, the faculty and my fellow board members to continue our positive momentum and move us forward.”

Green succeeds Randall Hunt, who joined the Board of Trustees in 1995 and was named chair in 2010. During Hunt’s tenure in this leadership role, Mount Union carried out Advancing Excellence: A Strategic Plan for the University of Mount Union, which brought updated curriculum and academic programs, a focus on strategic enrollment growth, enhanced diversity and broadened visibility of the institution.

“Allen Green continues a long tradition of strong board leadership that has propelled Mount Union’s growth and progress,” said Dr. W. Richard Merriman Jr., president of Mount Union. “I’m confident he will build on the strong foundation built by former Board Chair Randall Hunt to keep the University moving ahead with energy and vision. Allen and his wife, Carol, are both devoted Mount Union alumni, so he understands the institution very well. In addition, Allen’s active leadership in the business communities of Stark County and Northeast Ohio has given him great insight into the role Mount Union and our graduates can and should play in the economic development of the region. I look forward to working with Allen and his fellow trustees.”
