Alliance Symphony Orchestra and Mount Union College to Feature Soloists on April 18

The Alliance Symphony Orchestra and Mount Union College will present a Solo con Tutti on Sunday, April 18 at 3 p.m. in the Alliance High School Auditorium. The concert will feature solo performances by 2009 Concerto and Aria Competition award recipients cellist Josh Williams of Perry High School, pianist Marina Iwao of Mount Union College and soprano Jean Couchie-Burnquist of Canton.
In addition to accompanying the soloists, the 70-member community and student orchestra will perform works by Berlioz, Bizet, Saens and Glinka. A pre-concert chat with conductor Rebecca Stinson will begin at 2:30 p.m.
Josh Williams, a junior at Perry High School and high school award winner will perform Gabriel Favre’s “Elegie” for cello. Josh is a member of the Jazz Band and Symphonic Winds at Perry, actively performs with the Tuscarawas Philharmonic and is the principal cellist in the Canton Youth Symphony.
Marina Iwao, a sophomore at Mount Union College and winner of the collegiate award will perform Ludwig von Beethoven’s “Concerto No. 1 in C Major” for piano. The native of Fukuoka, Japan is pursuing a bachelor of music degree in piano performance and is a student of Dr. Maira Liliestedt, assistant professor of music at Mount Union.
Soprano soloist and community member award winner Jean Couchie-Burnquist will perform Mozart’s “Exsultate Jubilate.” She is actively singing and teaching voice. A native of Alliance and graduate of Mount Union, Jean regularly performs at Marietta College and several area churches.
Senior tickets are $8 each, adult admission is $10 and children and students are free. Arts in Stark and Alliance Concert Association cardholders receive a two-for-one ticket discount.
