Alliance Symphony Orchestra to Perform October 22

Maria LiliestedtALLIANCE, Ohio – The Alliance Symphony Orchestra will perform on Sunday, October 22 at 3 p.m. in Brush Performance Hall.  

Eric Benjamin, music director of the Alliance Symphony, will lead the ensemble in a performance of Carl Nielsen's Saga Drom, Franz Joseph Haydn Symphony No. 100 "Military", George Enescu's Rhapsody No. 1 in A major, and Saint-Saens' Piano Concerto No. 2.  

Pianist Dr. Maira Liliestedt, professor of music at the University of Mount Union, will be featured on Saint-Saens' Piano Concerto No. 2 in G Minor, Op. 22, an audience-favorite work encompassing both Romantic emotional sweep and irrepressible musical sparkle. Liliestedt received a Bachelor of Music in piano performance from Bowling Green State University and both a Master of Music and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance from the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music. She is an active teacher and performer and a two-time recipient of the prestigious Presser Music Award. Liliestedt has been a member of the Appassionata Piano Duo with Janelle Phinney since 1996.  

Tickets are required for the event, and general admission is $10 and tickets for seniors 65 and over are $8.  Students from any institution can attend free of charge.  

The Alliance Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1989 by Dr. Peter Synnestvedt. The ensemble brings together local musicians including advanced high school students, college students, community members and professors.
