Alpha Delta Pi and Sigma Alpha Epsilon take Greek Week Honors
April 01, 2010
Mount Union College held their annual Greek Week festivities October 30 to November 3, naming Alpha Delta Pi and Sigma Alpha Epsilon Greek Week 2006 champions.
Members of the Greek community participated in events from community service, lip sync and an Olympic-style event while being paired with a Greek organization of the opposite sex.
Monday afternoon kicked off the week with a banner competition. The sororities and fraternities were required to make a banner to be hung on their houses by Monday afternoon to be judged. The winners of the banner competition were the sisters of Delta Sigma Tau and the brothers of Sigma Nu.
On Monday night, the Peterson Fieldhouse was host to the Greek Olympics. The Greek community participated in a tug-of-war, three-legged race, corn-hole, volleyball and basketball. Each event had their own specific winner; with the overall winners of that competition being Alpha Chi Omega and Phi Kappa Tau.
Something new was brought to Greek Week on Tuesday night. Members of the Panhellenic Council and Interfraternity Council decided to hold a canned food drive through dorm storming. All food collected was donated to the 'Feed My Sheep' food pantry in Alliance.
'We wanted to do an event that focused on working together as a Greek community and focused less on competition,' said Danielle Haenel, treasurer of panhellenic council and Greek Week Coordinator.
The Mount Union Business Office showed their support of Greek life by donating $1.50 to the food pantry for each person who donated a canned good.
Wednesday night brought Ultimate Frisbee to the Mount Union Stadium. Teams played each other in a 'round-robin' style competition, until Alpha Delta Pi and Sigma Alpha Epsilon were named the winners.
Greek unity continued to shine at the 'Greeks Thru the Decades' competition. The paired groups were given a decade to sample songs from; two songs had to be lip synced and each group had to make up their own words to two other songs about Greek life.
The winner of 'Greeks Thru the Decades' was announced at the Greek reception held Friday evening. Alpha Delta Pi and Sigma Alpha Epsilon won that event and were announced overall winners of Greek Week 2006.
