Alpha Phi Omega to Present Light Up the Lakes
April 22, 2014
ALLIANCE, Ohio –Members of the University of Mount Union and Alliance communities are invited to come together at the Mount Union Lakes at 8 p.m. April 23 for a floating candlelight vigil in remembrance of loved ones who may have passed away.
This is the second Light Up the Lakes since its debut last year. All are invited to come and give a minimum of a $1 donation to float a candle, provided by Alpha Phi Omega, on the campus lakes in memory of a loved one. One hundred percent of the funds collected will be donated to the Alliance Community Pantry which gave away meals to 2,624 families last year.
Dan Goswick, a junior marketing major from Amherst, OH, discussed his inspiration for the event.
“We wanted to do something big, visual and something the community has never seen before. We had a lot of people come out last year to the event and it was a really touching moment seeing everyone brought together. Being able to raise money for a local food bank while ‘setting the lake on fire’ is an amazing opportunity that we’re very excited about. ”
Floating candles will be available by donation only at the lakes.
