Alumni Weekend 2006 to Be Held June 9-10

Alumni will have a chance to reflect on 'memories and traditions' as they return to Mount Union College's campus during the weekend of June 9-10 in celebration of Alumni Weekend 2006. They will have the opportunity to enjoy a host of events, including class reunions, and reminisce about their days at the institution.

 

'Memories and Traditions' is the theme of this year's Alumni Weekend. Kicking off the events will be the Golden Anniversary Luncheon for the Class of 1956 on Friday, June 9 at the President's Home followed by a guided tour of the campus departing from the registration area at the Hoover-Price Campus Center (HPCC) at 4 p.m. The afternoon's events will conclude with the Kickoff Cookout at 5:30 p.m. on the Campus Grounds Patio at the HPCC.

Friday evening events include Greek gatherings for Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Xi Delta, Delta Delta Delta, and Sigma Nu. The Alumni Choir will rehearse and enjoy pizza at 7 p.m. A Welcome Back Reception will conclude Friday's events at 8 p.m. at Mike's Roadhouse Charly, 2239 W. State St.

Events to be held on Saturday begin with the Heritage Club Breakfast at 8 a.m. at the President's Home. The dedication of a memorial tree will be held outside of Dewald Chapel at 9 a.m. as will the National Cabinet of Mount Union Women in Main Lounge of the HPCC.

At 10 a.m., members of the Alumni Choir will meet for another rehearsal and two special interest sessions will be offered. Dr. William Coleman, professor of communication and assistant to the president for diversity affairs, will present 'Experiencing Native America: The Mount Union ' Tesuque Pueblo Connection' in the Alumni Room of the HPCC. The Campus Grounds of the HPCC will be the site of 'Revving Up the Residential Campus' presented by Jim Piatt, vice president for College advancement and Pat Heddleston, vice president for business affairs.

At 11 a.m. in the Campus Grounds of the HPCC, Dr. Richard Giese, president of the College, will present the annual State of Mount Union College address.

The annual Alumni Luncheon will be held at 12:15 p.m. in a tented area in the parking lot south of Dewald Chapel. Alumni Association President Pat (McFarland '71) Gates will be mistress of ceremonies. Special features will include the recognition of the Dodie Davis Alumni Service, Young Alumni and McKinley Fellow Award recipients. In the case of inclement weather, the luncheon will be held in the Gulling Training Center.

Following the luncheon, Greek Open Houses will be held from 2-6 p.m., with the Sigma Alpha Epsilon open house being held from 1-4 p.m. A self-guided campus tour will depart from the registration area of the HPCC at 4 p.m.

Class reunions will be held Saturday afternoon from 3-6 p.m. at various locations. The classes of 1931, 1936, 1941 and 1946 will join in the Campus Grounds of the HPCC. The reunion for the Class of 1951 will be held at the home of Duke Barret, 101 Vincent St., and the Class of 1956 will join at the home of Shirley Weimer, 2240 Crestview Ave. The classes of 1961 and 1966 will celebrate their reunions at Taster's Choice Caf', 1908 S. Union Ave. Mike's Roadhouse Charly, 2239 W. State St., will be the site of the reunions for the classes of 1971, 1976 and 1981.

Reunions for the classes of 1986, 1991, 1996 and 2001 will be held in the fall at Homecoming 2006, scheduled for Saturday, October 28.

The day will conclude with the Alumni Buffet in the Campus Grounds of the HPCC at 6:30 p.m.

The weekend's events will also include the presentation of 'March of the Penguins' in Mount Union Theatre at 8:15 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The Campus Bookstore will be open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday.

Overnight accommodations for alumni and families are available in Shields Residence Hall, an air-conditioned building with suite-style rooms located west of the HPCC.
