While taking Elementary Chinese, I had the opportunity to practice traditional Chinese calligraphy. This was my absolute favorite part of class because it shows that there is not only a difference in the way words are written (characters versus letters), but also a difference in the method of how the language is written.


The American Studies Program integrates courses about the American experience from a variety of disciplines, including art, communication, criminal justice, economics, English, foreign language, gender studies and history – just to name a few. You will explore the question “What does it mean to be an American?” As an American studies major, you will develop a broad base of knowledge and deepen your understanding of American society and your place in it while learning about diversity of the American experience. You will also be exposed to and develop an appreciation for other cultures.
