Amy Tomko, vice president for enrollment services, was selected as the winner of the 2008 Spirit of Enterprise Award by the Alliance Area Chamber of Commerce. Tomko was presented with this honor at the recent Business Alliance Awards luncheon.
The Spirit of Enterprise Award is presented to a chamber member who has demonstrated a commitment to the Alliance area business community.
“What sets Tomko apart is her ability to lead, not just at the College, but as a key member of the Women’s Division of the Chamber.” said Harry Paidas, vice president for public affairs and marketing upon announcing Tomko as the winner. “She has played a vital role in the success of Alliance’s source of pride – Mount Union College. Moreover, as a 10-year member of the Women’s Division, she has been a willing volunteer and initiated many efforts to support the Domestic Violence Shelter, Firefighters, the YWCA and many other local organizations.”
A native of Bedford, Ohio, Tomko is a 1981 Mount Union graduate and earned a master’s degree in education fro Kent State University.
“Alliance has been her home for more than 20 years and she has been largely responsible for the people who frequent our local establishments during the academic year – Mount Union’s students,” said Paidas. “Tomko oversees the admission and retention efforts at Mount Union. This, combined with her deep commitment to the community through the Chamber, makes her a worthy recipient of the award. She is very active professionally and is highly regarded by her peers at other colleges and universities throughout the state and region.”
