Annual Greek Week Activities Unite Greek Community on Campus

Last week, the Greek community of Mount Union College came together to participate in Greek Week 2003.

On Sunday, October 19, the week kicked off with a service project. The fraternities and sororities on campus raked leaves for neighborhoods surrounding the College.

Monday, October 20, marked a new event for Greek Week. A raft race was held in the pool at Timken. Four representatives from each fraternity and sorority were to construct a 6x6 raft. The winners for the sororities were: Alpha Sigma Alpha in first place, Alpha Delta Pi in second place and Alpha Xi Delta in third place. The winners for the fraternities were Sigma Alpha Epsilon in first place, Phi Kappa Tau in second place and Alpha Tau Omega in third place.

Additional awards were also given. "Best of Show" was awarded to Alpha Delta Pi sorority and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. "Worst of Show" was awarded to Alpha Chi Omega sorority and Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. "Most Likely to Fall Apart" was awarded to Alpha Chi Omega sorority, Phi Kappa Tau fraternity and Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. "Finished in One Piece" was awarded to Alpha Delta Pi sorority and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.

On Tuesday, October 21, the lip sync contest was held. The fraternities were paired with sororities to create a themed routine, set to music with choreography. The pair of Alpha Delta Pi fraternity and Sigma Alpha Epsilon took first place. Alpha Chi Omega sorority and Alpha Tau Omega fraternity took second. Alpha Xi Delta and Phi Kappa Tau took third. "Funniest Performance" and "Most Creative" were awarded to the pair of Alpha Chi Omega and Alpha Tau Omega. "Best Theme," "Best Dance Moves," "Most in Sync" and "Best Lip Movement" were awarded to the pair of Alpha Delta Pi and Sigma Alpha Epsilon.

Wednesday, October 22 featured the Greek Olympics. Teams from each fraternity and sorority competed against each other in a number of different events, including a six-legged race, skittle race, tug-o-war and an obstacle course.

The winners for the six-legged race were Alpha Delta Pi sorority and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Second place went to Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority and Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. Third place went to Alpha Delta Pi sorority and fourth to Alpha Xi Delta sorority and Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.

For the skittle race, Alpha Chi Omega sorority and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity took first place. Alpha Xi Delta sorority and Phi Kappa Tau fraternity took second, Alpha Delta Pi sorority took third and Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority and Alpha Tau Omega fraternity took fourth.

For tug-o-war, first place went to Alpha Xi Delta sorority, Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Second place went to Alpha Delta Pi sorority and Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Third place went to Alpha Chi Omega sorority and Phi Kappa Tau fraternity.

The winners of the obstacle course were Alpha Xi Delta sorority, Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Second place went to Alpha Delta Pi sorority and Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Third place went to Alpha Chi Omega sorority and Phi Kappa Tau fraternity.

Thursday, October 23 was Greek Sing, which took place in Timken gymnasium. In this event, the participating fraternities and sororities are asked to pick a theme and create songs that deal with Greek life to coincide with the chosen theme. Some also choose to include choreography to go with the lyrics. For the sororities, Alpha Delta Pi took first place, Alpha Chi Omega and Alpha Xi Delta tied for second and Alpha Sigma Alpha took third. For the fraternities, Sigma Alpha Epsilon took first place, Alpha Tau Omega took second and Phi Kappa Tau took third.

On Friday, October 24, the week came to a close with an all-Greek barbeque in the quad. The overall winners of the week were also announced. First place was awarded to Alpha Delta Pi sorority and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Second place was awarded to Alpha Xi Delta sorority and Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. Third place was awarded to Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority and Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.
