Take advantage of the enduring benefits of study in the arts, which have long been touted. In fact, according to a 2005 Harris poll, 93% of Americans believe the arts are vital to a well-rounded education. Other research efforts align study of the arts with enhanced critical thinking, creativity and aptitude for learning.
The national data is compelling, yet it is our own students who inspire our continued emphasis on such cultural exposure at Mount Union. They are the very reason that we strive to provide exceptional opportunities for engagement in artistic, musical and theatrical endeavors on campus.
Study of the arts is part of our heritage at Mount Union. In fact, it’s woven into the very fabric of our history. From the earliest days of the institution, art, music and theatre were central to the philosophy of the institution. With a solid foundation in the liberal arts, our educational core has traditionally included the arts as a vital component.
They are also fundamental to our mission. In our quest to prepare students for fulfilling lives, meaningful work and responsible citizenship, we seek to provide an education that is all encompassing. In addition to providing for exploration and the unveiling of new ideas and concepts, the arts embody the significance of this well-rounded student experience for which Mount Union is known. Art, music and theatre truly help to nourish the “whole person.”
