Dr. James Perone

Teaching Area(s): Music

My course on popular music and the Vietnam War came directly out of research that I did on my first sabbatical in fall 2000. My more recent research on the development of British Invasion rock and roll has led directly to my First Year Seminar, “Beyond the Beatles.”

Music Auditions

Music auditions serve two purposes:

  1. ) For students who wish to major in music and are thus applying for direct-admission to the music degree programs, auditions are an evaluation of skill and potential for success as future musicians. For these students, auditions are part of the admission process into the music degree programs as well as evaluations of musical ability for the purposes of earning a Music Scholarship Award.
  2. ) For students who do not wish to major in music, the music audition serves only as an evaluation of musical ability for the purposes of earning a Music Scholarship Award.

Music Scholarship Awards are eight-semester renewable awards based upon meeting the terms set by the faculty. Auditions for these Music Scholarship Awards are open only to students who have been admitted to the University. Auditions are open to both students wishing to major in music and students who will not major in music. Students who accept Music Scholarships but do not major in music will be expected to participate in the music department as specified by the music faculty.

Music majors and minors are eligible for larger Music Scholarship Awards than non-music majors. Thus, it is imperative that students intending to major or minor in music should clearly state their intent to do so in the application process.

There is also a blended scholarship available for students double majoring in both music and theatre.

All scholarships are talent-based and offered regardless of financial need.

The application for admission to the Fall 2018 semester at the University of Mount Union will be available in July 2017. Beginning in early fall of 2017, audition reservation forms for students admitted to the Fall 2018 semester will be available. The Visual and Performing Arts Scholarship audtion dates for students admitted to the 2018 incoming class are as follows:

  • Saturday, November 4, 2017
  • Monday, January 15, 2018
  • Saturday, February 17, 2018
  • Monday, February 19, 2018
  • Saturday, February 24, 2018 (CHOIR AND MARCHING BAND ONLY)

We encourage you to think seriously about your major strength in the area of visual and performing arts. Students are permitted to audition for only one scholarship. Mount Union offers visual and performing arts scholarships in art, music, theatre and a blended scholarship for students majoring in both music and theatre.
