Author Harvey Pekar to Speak at Mount Union College February 20

pekarbioAuthor and Cleveland native, Harvey Pekar will speak at Mount Union College on Wednesday, February 20 at 6 p.m. in the Mount Union Theatre.

Pekar is widely known for his autobiographical slice-of-life comic book series, American Splendor; a first-person account of his downtrodden life.  He self published the series up until Dark Horse took over the publication in the early 1990s.  Pekar was also awarded the American Book Award in 1987 for American Splendor.  In 2003, his comic book series was made into an award-winning film starring Paul Giamatti.

Other books by Pekar include Best of American Splendor, American Splendor: Our Movie Year, Ego & Hubris: The Michael Malice Story and The Quitter.  He began his writing career as a jazz critic.  His reviews have been published in The Austin Chronicle, The Boston Herald and Jazz Times.  He has also done freelance work for WKSU radio station and has appeared eight times on Late Night with David Letterman.
