AVI Fresh to Host 2016 Platinum Chef Ohio

ALLIANCE, Ohio – AVI Fresh, in partnership with the University of Mount Union, will host the sixth annual Platinum Chef Ohio competition from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13 in the Kresge Dining Commons.

During the event, college students from Mount Union, Malone University, Kenyon College and Hiram College will be chefs for the night as they compete against each other for a chance at victory.

In order to compete in Platinum Chef Ohio, the teams first had to win preliminary competitions held at their respective schools. Each team is represented by four to five students and an AVI Fresh chef. Teams have one hour to create three separate dishes to present to five judges and each dish is required to highlight a mystery ingredient. Judges are the Jack Frosters, the recent champions of Food Network’s Cake Wars: Christmas 2015; Chef Steve Baity, Chef Beth Townsend and Chef Froggy.

The event will kick off with live musical guest DJ Mike on the Mic. Mount Union students will able to participate in events including the celebrity guest judge’s presentation, fun competitions for prizes and a live performance by Elec Simon, a world percussionist, former cast member of the Broadway show Stomp and a soloist for the Qstix performing at Cleveland Cavalier home games.

Teams will be judged on their ability to demonstrate team work, sanitation skills, food appearance, taste and creativity. The winning team will receive a $2,000 cash prize and trophy. At 7:30 p.m., a photo and autograph session with the Jack Fosters will take place.

The event is open to the public. Cost is regular dinner price of $9.50.
