Bios of Experts in Educational Leadership
Lyn Sharratt taught elementary- and secondary-aged students in regular and special needs classrooms for 22 years in three jurisdictions in Ontario before beginning her career in educational administration. Lyn was administrator and associate professor at York University's Faculty of Education, an executive assistant responsible for professional development at the provincial teachers’ union and the director of curriculum and program for the provincial trustee association, OPSBA. In 1995, Lyn became a field superintendent for York Region District School Board (YRDSB) and in 1996 earned a doctoral degree from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. In 2002, Lyn was named superintendent of curriculum and instructional services. Currently, Lyn is senior advisor for system and school improvement for the YRDSB, coordinating external research focused on increasing student achievement. She also is an associate at Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto, supervising doctoral students in the department of Theory and Policy Studies.
Robert J. Marzano
Robert J. Marzano, Ph.D., is cofounder and chief executive officer of Marzano Research Laboratory in Englewood, CO. A leading researcher in education, he is a speaker, trainer and author of more than 30 books and 150 articles on topics such as instruction, assessment, writing and implementing standards, cognition, effective leadership and school intervention. His books include Designing and Teaching Learning Goals and Objectives, District Leadership That Works, Formative Assessment and Standards-Based Grading, On Excellence in Teaching and The Art and Science of Teaching. His practical translations of the most current research and theory into classroom strategies are internationally known and widely practiced by both teachers and administrators.
Dr. Marzano earned a bachelor’s degree from Iona College in New York, a master’s degree from Seattle University and a doctoral degree from the University of Washington.
Michael Fullan is professor emeritus of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto. Recognized as a worldwide authority on educational reform, Michael is engaged in training, consulting and evaluating change projects around the world and his books have been published in many languages.
Michael Fullan is currently special advisor to the premier and minister of education in Ontario. His book, Leading in a Culture of Change, was awarded the 2002 Book of the Year Award by the National Staff Development Council and Breakthrough (with Peter Hill and Carmel Crévola) won the 2006 Book of the Year Award from the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education.
