Bird Banding to be Held at the Nature Center on October 17

October 12, 2009

The John T. Huston-Dr. John D. Brumbaugh Nature Center of Mount Union College will be holding a bird banding session on Saturday, October 17 from 8 to 10 a.m.

On Saturday Al Eibel will set up mist nets to capture songbirds. He will then band each bird and collect data such as species, sex, age, mass, wing length and general health. The birds will then be released. Bird banding allows scientists to collect information about bird’s age, distribution, migration and reproduction.

No registration is required. The Nature Center is located six miles south of Mount Union College on Daniel Street, just off of Route 183. For more information, contact the Nature Center at (330) 823-7487.
