University of Mount Union faculty members, Dr. Hamako Furuhata-Turner and Dr. David Thiele, presented their academic research at the Faculty Research Forum on Tuesday, March 29. 

Two University of Mount Union students will perform a joint piano recital on Wednesday, April 6 at 8 p.m. in Presser Recital Hall.

Grant William Cook III has been named director of choral activities at the University of Mount Union. Cook comes to Mount Union from Heidelberg University, where he most recently served as director of the Heidelberg concert choir and chamber singers, oversaw the choral program and served as a tenured associate professor of choral music and music history. 

An art exhibit featuring the senior culminating experience (SCE) projects of University of Mount Union students will be held in the Crandall Art Gallery from April 4 - May 7. An artists' reception will be held Saturday, April 9 from 4-6 p.m. in the Gallery.

This past Saturday, more than 250 volunteers from the University of Mount Union offered their time and talents to help transform the Empowerment Center, located at 715 S. Arch Ave. in Alliance. Volunteers participated in “March Makeover 2011: Alliance Edition” by working on renovation projects such as painting, cleaning, building cabinets and landscaping.

Students enrolled in a social responsibility course at the University of Mount Union traveled to a rural village in El Salvador to help others during spring break. For nearly 12 years, Mount Union has worked with ASAPROSAR, a rural health organization to work on a variety of humanitarianism projects.

A group of University of Mount Union students, two staff members and an alumnus spent their spring break in Niceville, Florida restoring the Gulf Coast ecosystem.

Junior music education majors at the University of Mount Union – Sarah Behal of Stow, Ohio and Kayleigh Eddy of Youngstown, Ohio – placed second and third respectively in the R. Keith Newton Music Education Essay Competition. The competition was administered by The Ohio Federation of Music Clubs.

The University of Mount Union recently earned Tree Campus USA recognition for 2010 for its dedication to campus forestry management and environmental stewardship. This is the first year Mount Union has been named a Tree Campus USA.

The Annual Student Art Exhibit featuring works by University of Mount Union students will be on display in the Crandall Art Gallery from Monday, March 14 through Thursday, March 31. 

Singers Tamra Hayden and Craig Schul­man will be performing a free concert on Tuesday, March 15 at 8 p.m. in the Mount Union Theatre.
