A 25-foot stock ticker display within the Engineering and Business Building at the University of Mount Union was named recently in honor of John F. “Jack” Peters, a member of the Board of Trustees and vice president of Stifel, Nicolaus & Company, Inc. (formerly Butler Wick & Co.).

The Athletic Training Program at the University of Mount Union recently re­ceived the maximum 10-year accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).

The episode of ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, featuring University of Mount Union student volunteers assisting in the construction of a home for a Cleveland area family, will be aired on ABC on Sunday, December 5 at 8 p.m. Beginning at 7 p.m., NewsChannel5 will air a one-hour special that will give viewers a behind the scenes look of the week-long project.

The Alliance Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Eric Benjamin, will present a concert of holiday favorites on Sunday, December 5 at 3 p.m. in the Alliance High School Auditorium.

This holiday season, Raider Relief, a student-driven organization at the University of Mount Union, is encouraging individuals to spend less on unnecessary holiday gifts and redirect their spending to provide clean water to residents of third world nations.

The University of Mount Union’s Department of Theatre will present “Ghosts” by Henrik Ibsen and translated by Lanford Wilson on November 18, 19 and 20 at 8 p.m. in the Rodman Playhouse.

In honor of Native American Heritage Month, Robert Roche from the American Indian Education Center (AIEC) in Cleveland will be on the University of Mount Union’s campus to provide a general overview of the American Indian Movement from its inception in 1968 to the present. He will speak on Thursday, November 11 at 7 p.m. in Campus Grounds of the Hoover-Price Campus Center.

More than 150 people from surrounding colleges and universities came together on Mount Union’s cam­pus this weekend to learn more about diversity issues from a wide variety of perspectives.

Mount Union students from a number of on-campus organizations went trick-or-treating for canned goods instead of candy this Halloween. As a result, 3,763 non-perishable food items were collected and will benefit the Alliance Area Domestic Violence Shelter and the Alliance Community Pantry.

Dr. Scott Gravlee, associate professor of philosophy and religious studies and chair of the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at the University of Mount Union, recently presented “Biomedical Ethics at the Crossroads: New Directions and Connections” during the faculty lecture on campus.

Take Back the Night, a program developed to raise awareness of domestic violence and sexual assault, will be held at the University of Mount Union on Wednesday, October 27.
