A distinguished panel of experts will discuss the crisis in the Middle East and North Africa on Thursday, April 7 from 6 – 8 p.m. in the East Room of the Hoover-Price Campus Center on the University of Mount Union’s campus.

University of Mount Union faculty members, Dr. Hamako Furuhata-Turner and Dr. David Thiele, presented their academic research at the Faculty Research Forum on Tuesday, March 29. 

Grant William Cook III has been named director of choral activities at the University of Mount Union. Cook comes to Mount Union from Heidelberg University, where he most recently served as director of the Heidelberg concert choir and chamber singers, oversaw the choral program and served as a tenured associate professor of choral music and music history. 

The Ralph and Mary Regula Center for Public Service and Civic Engagement at the University of Mount Union, The Bliss Institute of Applied Politics at The University of Akron and the Levin College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University have joined together in a public/private collaboration to address the state’s most pressing political issues.

An art exhibit featuring the senior culminating experience (SCE) projects of University of Mount Union students will be held in the Crandall Art Gallery from April 4 - May 7. An artists' reception will be held Saturday, April 9 from 4-6 p.m. in the Gallery.

This past Saturday, more than 250 volunteers from the University of Mount Union offered their time and talents to help transform the Empowerment Center, located at 715 S. Arch Ave. in Alliance. Volunteers participated in “March Makeover 2011: Alliance Edition” by working on renovation projects such as painting, cleaning, building cabinets and landscaping.

The University of Mount Union will hold a Faculty Research Forum on Tuesday, March 29 at 6 p.m. in Room 206 of the Engineering and Business Building.

The University of Mount Union will host several events in honor and celebration of Women’s History Month. This year’s theme is “Our History is Our Strength.” All of the following events are free and open to the public.

Student organizations at the University of Mount Union have joined forces in an effort to raise money for tsunami victims in Japan.

A group of students from Hiroshima Jogakuin High School, a school that has a longstanding relationship with the University of Mount Union, will travel to Mount Union this month to learn more about American culture. Students will be on campus from Tuesday, March 29 through Tuesday, April 5.

Astrophysicist, TV show host and author, Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson, presented 10 Things ‘Out of This World’ You Should Know About the Universe during the Schooler Lecture at the University of Mount Union on Thursday, March 24.

Individuals will have the opportunity to experience what it is like living in poverty on Thursday, April 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Alliance Middle School. TANF Town, a poverty simulation, will allow people to role-play as members of low-income families.

The University of Mount Union’s Horn Choir and Guitar Ensemble will perform Monday, March 28 at 8 p.m. in Presser Recital Hall.

The Women’s History Month keynote address by Susan Douglas, scheduled for Wednesday, March 23 at 7 p.m. in the Mount Union Theatre, has been cancelled. Douglas is unable to get to Alliance due to weather-related flight cancellations. Every effort will be made to reschedule the event.

A piano keys recital featuring students of Dr. Maira Liliestedet will be held on Tuesday, March 29 at 8 p.m. in Presser Recital Hall on the University of Mount Union’s campus.
