Department of Theatre to Present “The Foreigner” October 8-11

October 02, 2009

The Mount Union College Department of Theatre will present “The Foreigner” by Larry Shue. Performances will be held on October 8-10 at 8 p.m. and October 11 at 2 p.m. in the Rodman Playhouse. The Foreigner, a comedy by Larry Shue, was written in 1983 and is the winner of two Obie Awards and two Outer Critics Circle Awards. The scene is a fishing lodge in rural Georgia often visited by ‘Froggy’ LeSueur, a British demolition expert who occasionally runs training sessions at a nearby army base.  This time Froggy has brought along a friend, a pathologically shy young man named Charlie who is overcome with fear at the thought of making conversations with strangers.  Froggy tells all assembled that Charlie is from an exotic foreign country and speaks no English.  As a result, Charlie overhears more than he should, leading to the wildly funny climax in which things go uproariously awry.Under the direction of Deborah Lotsof, professor of theatre, the cast includes Jon Baley, a junior music major of Akron as Charlie Baker; Kenneth Leep, a freshman of Stow as Froggy LeSueur; Rosie Tabaj, a freshman of Twinsburg as Betty Meeks; Julia Collins, a freshman of Alliance as Catherine Sims; Aaron Wolfe, a freshman of Sebring as Rev. David Lee; Kyle McKenna, a freshman of North Ridgeville as Ellard Simms and Marciano Bagnoli, a freshman of Louisville as Owen Musser.  Stage Manager Lucy Gotch, a senior political science major of Louisville will be assisted by Bethany Ault, a freshman of Alliance and Beth Bauer, a sophomore of Allison Park, PA. The Rodman Playhouse is located on the corner of Simpson Street and Union Avenue on the Mount Union College campus. Tickets are $8 for general admission. For more information or to order tickets, please call (330) 821-2565. Tickets are complimentary for Mount Union faculty, staff and students.
