Mission of the Civil Engineering Degree Program:
The mission of the civil engineering degree program at the University of Mount Union is to provide a rigorous hands-on engineering education integrated with liberal arts in a student-centered environment. Our graduates will be equipped for life-long learning necessary for professional practice and advanced studies. We will prepare our students to be the technical, business, and global leaders of tomorrow.

Educational Objectives for the Civil Engineering Degree Program:

  1. Graduates will achieve fulfilling lives by pursuing professional licensure, advanced studies, or alternate career paths.
  2. Graduates will achieve meaningful work by applying their strong Civil Engineering, business, leadership, and communication skills to meet the expectations of their employers.
  3. Graduates will achieve responsible citizenship by serving the Civil Engineering profession and their community locally, nationally, and internationally.

Student Outcomes for the Civil Engineering Degree Program:

(a)    an ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering

(b)    an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data

(c)    an ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability

(d)    an ability to function on multidisciplinary teams

(e)    an ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems

(f)    an understanding of professional and ethical responsibility

(g)    an ability to communicate effectively

(h)    the broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context
