What sets Mount Union apart from other colleges and universities is the fact that you can participate in anything you want here. You can participate in athletics and performing arts, which is something that you can’t do at most schools. In fact, I was a member of the track team last year, which won an OAC championship, and then one week after the championship, I traveled to Italy to tour with the Concert Choir. That’s not something students can do at most colleges!

MY EXCEPTIONAL STORY

One-on-one attention
I really liked the small school atmosphere and the one-on-one attention you get from professors. In addition, this was one of the few universities I looked at that would allow me to participate in cross country and track and sing in the choir, which were both things I really wanted to pursue in college.

Anything is possible
What sets Mount Union apart from other colleges and universities is the fact that you can participate in anything you want here. You can participate in athletics and performing arts, which is something that you can’t do at most schools. Waving
I like the people at Mount Union. I love being able to walk around campus and wave to people I know.

One of the best views
My favorite place on campus would have to be the third floor of the library. It’s where I go to get a lot of my studying done since its quiet and I can really focus. It also offers one of the best views on campus.

Academic resources
If I had to pick one place on campus to take someone who was visiting, I would take him or her to the library. In the library, there are academic classrooms as well as some of the resources that Mount Union offers such as the Writing Center, the Information Technology Help Desk and the Curriculum Resource Center, all of which I have utilized since coming to the University.

Learning about something I love
I chose to major in history because I have always had immense passion for it. Ever since elementary school, I knew exactly what I wanted to study in college. The fact that I get to spend the majority of my classes learning about something I love makes me feel really lucky.

Coming up with questions
My favorite professor would probably have to be Dr. H. Louis Rees, associate professor of history. No matter what questions we would come up with in Renaissance and Reformation, he would always come back the next class with either an answer or an explanation as to why there was no answer. I learned a lot about that time period from those questions alone. He also had a great sense of humor when dealing with us, which always made the class enjoyable.

Dream job
After I graduate from college, I hope to teach history at the high school level. It’s actually funny because when I was younger I never wanted to be a teacher, but the older I got the more I realized that this is what I wanted to do in life. The education courses I’ve taken here at Mount Union and my experience in the classroom has further reinforced my desire to teach. The fact that I will get to spend my life sharing something I love with others makes this a perfect career for me.
