Dee Keener Honored for 28 Years of Service to Mount Union

April 06, 2010

A reception was held recently in the lobby of Beeghly Hall to honor Delores Keener, secretary to the vice president for enrollment services and student financial services. Faculty, staff and friends were on hand to congratulate her on her retirement from Mount Union College after 28 years of service. At the reception, Keener was presented with a Mount Union rocking chair by the Office of Human Resources and an engraved clock by her fellow support staff members.

A strong advocate for the College and a staunch Purple Raider fan, she has served the College under the leadership of Presidents Ewing, Kolenbrander, Shields (interim), Lantz and Weber. She also served on the staff of current President Richard Giese in his previous professional tenure at Mount Union as vice president for enrollment services and director of financial aid.

As a result of her work in student financial services, Keener has touched the lives of thousands of students.' 'She has provided a constant, caring presence on the telephone and to the many visitors to the office,' according to Amy Tomko, vice president for enrollment services. 'Many graduates have stopped by to reconnect with Dee when they return to campus.'

The Enrollment Services staff has chosen to recognize Keener by naming a tree in her honor.' The tree will be planted on campus this coming fall through the M Club's Tree of Honor Program.'' 'This will help to beautify the campus and serve as a fitting remembrance of someone who has contributed so much to the College and the lives of so many students,' Tomko said.
