Mount has exceptional Chemistry and Education departments. I feel that I am getting an outstanding education and will be well prepared for the real world. The only advice I have is to study hard and never be afraid to ask questions, or seek extra help outside of class. All subjects in college are fast paced. If you get too far behind it will be extremely hard to catch up. Successful students do their work and always come to class prepared and ready to listen.

Why did you choose to pursue your degree?
I come from a family of educators and I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. My high school chemistry and physics teacher inspired me to want to teach those subjects with his diverse teaching techniques and his passion for those subjects. I love science and find chemistry challenging and intriguing. Mount Union College has an excellent education program and outstanding chemistry professors.
What types of jobs are available for students who share your major?
Chemistry majors with an education minor, like me, will be able to teach seventh through twelfth grade science classes. I hope to teach high school chemistry and physics. With chemistry major I can also become a chemist, go on to medical school, become a pharmacist or even end up working in a laboratory.
How will you use your degree upon graduation?
Upon graduation I will either pursue a master’s degree in chemistry or administration or begin my career as an educator.
What activities are you involved in?
I am a member of the Varsity Women’s Soccer Team and the American Chemical Society. I look forward to becoming even more involved on campus.
What elements should a person possess in order to succeed in your major?
In order to succeed with a major in chemistry at Mount Union you must understand the importance of hard work and dedication. Chemistry majors are challenged to think critically and must study hard. The chemistry professors at Mount expect the best from their students. They are always there to answer questions or help their students in any way possible but it is up to the student to put in the time and truly have the desire to learn.

I love Mount. I was told while visiting colleges that when I found the right school I would just know. I felt at home at Mount right away and still do. I love the people, the professors, the campus and the athletic program. I have made so many amazing friends and memories already; Mount is the perfect fit for me.
