Detroit - Fall 2006

October 12-15, 2006

Located in southeastern Michigan, Detroit, "Motor City USA", is the largest city in the state, the 10th largest city in the United States and the eighth largest metropolitan area. Detroit has had a profound impact on the world-from the invention of the automobile to the Motown sound-Detroit has indeed been a crafter in American culture.

While in Detroit we visited:

• The Ford Rouge Factory (the Ford F 150 assembly plant)
• The Henry Ford Museum
• The Detroit Historical Museum
• Greektown
• And listened to a special presentation by Professor Clark on the "Industrial Revolution and the Impact of the Automobile Industry on the Culture of America: Its People, Its Commerce, and its Global Significance."

Also while in the Motor City, we had ample free time to explore:

• downtown Detroit and its surrounding communities-Pontiac, Auburn Hills, etc.
• traveled just over the river to Windsor, Canada
• the home of Motown Records, Hitsville USA
• the famous Renaissance Hotel, headquarters to the General Motors Corporation (GMC)
• the Museum of African American History, Holocaust Memorial Center, the Cranbrook Academy of Art Museum; the Motor Sports Hall of Fame
• Ford Field, Comerica Park, Joe Louis Arena, the Pontiac Silverdome, and the Palace at Auburn Hills
