Director of Security Keane Toney Receives Awards

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Keane Toney, director of Campus Security and Safety at The University of Mount Union, was the recent recipient of several accolades including an award from the House of Representatives, an ICON Award from the Urban Pastors Association and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership and Diversity Award.
Toney earned a Master of Science degree in criminal justice administration from Andrew Jackson University, and Bachelor of Science in criminal justice and Associate of Science in police science degrees from the University of Akron. Toney has been a part of the Mount Union community since 2004. The Toney family has a long history with Mount Union, starting with Toney’s father Kenneth Toney who graduated from Mount Union in 1954. Toney’s son Derrick graduated from Mount Union in 2013 with a degree in criminal justice.
Toney received an award from the House of Representatives for his dedication to better improve the community through “racial harmony, social justice, and appreciation for diversity and differences.” The award was presented by Ohio State Representative Christina Hagan.
“In your time serving the Alliance community at the Alliance Police Department, Alliance Fire Department and now using your skills at Toney Police Consulting, your service for others and serves and as an inspiration to many,” the award reads. It is certain that the community is a richer place due to your service, and for that we thank you.”
In addition, Toney received the ICON award from the Urban Pastors Association and members of the Community of Alliance due to his passion for law enforcement and community service in the Alliance community.
Toney was nominated for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership and Diversity Award at Mount Union due to his work in diversity education and his compassion towards all people. His nominator states, “Martin Luther King Jr. was a man who exemplified many values and characteristics. Some of those traits were courage, compassion, integrity…director Toney embodies many of these traits and is well respected in many communities as a leader and inspiration through his words and actions.”
Toney also owns and operates Toney Police Consulting, LLC. He offers lessons specializing in diversity training and sexual harassment prevention training for the private sector and public organizations. He has done this training in many cities including Farrell, Sharon and Sharpsville, Pennsylvania and Beavercreek, Alliance, Louisville, Hartville, Fairborn and Chagrin Falls, Ohio and is often asked to speak on these topics. He has presented an anti-bullying presentation as well. In addition, Toney has consulted and trained departments in Ohio that were in the national spotlight for police-minority involved use of deadly force and has appeared as an expert on The O’Reilly Factor show.
