Disaster Drill to be Held May 14
May 10, 2011
The University of Mount Union and the Alliance Community Hospital, in conjunction with the Alliance Fire Department and Alliance Police Department, will be conducting a disaster drill on Saturday, May 14 between the hours of noon to 4 p.m. on the University’s campus.
Area residents shouldn’t be alarmed if they see emergency vehicles on the campus of Mount Union or near the area of Alliance Community Hospital during the drill on Saturday.
The purpose of the exercise is to practice the efficiency of emergency medical, criminal and evacuation procedures in the unfortunate incidence of a community-wide disaster. It will also give Mount Union the opportunity to test Blackboard Connect, its mass communication system that allows the institution to reach all members of the campus community with information during unforeseen events or emergencies within minutes.
The drill will incorporate the assistance of several regional and county emergency responders and disaster management specialists, the Alliance-Minerva American Red Cross with support from the Canton region and various local volunteers as well as several troops from the Wapakenachee District of the Boy Scouts.
