December 03, 2015
ALLIANCE, Ohio – The University of Mount Union is pleased to announce the approval of a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program by the Institutional Actions Committee of the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) on October 30. Mount Union is now accepting applications for the inaugural class to launch in fall 2016 (pending appropriate approvals).
The DPT program at Mount Union is structured with the mission of preparing responsive Doctors of Physical Therapy to utilize evidence and practices for lifelong service to patients, the community and society. Relationships with the Alliance community and local area hospitals, plus new state-of-the art science facility Gallaher Hall, will help the new DPT program thrive.
“Physical therapy is a dynamic profession grounded in foundational science courses and applied movement to assist individuals with improving, maintaining or regaining function,” said Robert M. Frampton, PT, DHCE, MPT, director of the Physical Therapy program at Mount Union.
The new DPT program was created in response to the large degree of growth experienced in the field of physical therapy. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that job growth in physical therapy will exceed 30% in the next 10 years, making it the 26th fastest growing occupation. The high demand of this rewarding career path ensures the necessity of the growth of this program.
“We are excited to be adapting to the growing need for individuals in this field,” said Dr. Patricia Draves, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the University. “This program will not only meet the growing demands of the job market, but will also help students excel in the field of physical therapy.”
The University will file in March of 2016 the formal Application for Candidacy with the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education.
