ALLIANCE, Ohio – Dr. Andy Bain, professor of sociology and criminal justice at the University of Mount Union, recently earned the Fredrick Milton Thrasher Award from the National Gang Crime Research Center.
Bain received the award for “Superior Research into Gangs.” According to the NCCRC, the Thrasher Award was established in 1992 “to honor and recognize superior scholarship, leadership, accomplishments and service contributions by individuals and by programs in dealing with public safety issues like that posed by gangs.”
Bain continues his research into the gang phenomena, and his second book on the subject has recently received confirmation of publication. He also facilitated a session at the NGCRC 19th International Gang Specialist Training Conference in Chicago titled “The OMCG in a Global Perspective”, and will be presenting on deviancy and gang membership at this year’s American Society of Criminology conference.
Bain is one of 18 criminal justice professionals and one of only five professors nationwide to receive the award.
