Dr. Bob Ekey to Speak at LINC Luncheon
September 20, 2013
ALLIANCE, Ohio – Dr. Bob Ekey, assistant professor and chair of the Department of Physics at the University of Mount Union, will be the featured LINC luncheon speaker at noon on Tuesday, September 24 in the East Room of the Hoover-Price Campus Center on Mount Union’s campus.
Ekey will present, “What’s That Sound? The Influence of Sound Waves on Every Day Life.” Interaction with sound waves occurs on a daily basis, but rarely is the complexity of the interaction or the difference between the physical stimulus and what is heard considered. Ekey’s talk will provide an accessible discussion of sound waves, musical instruments and sound tricks. He will also seek out some audience participation during demonstrations.
Ekey, a 1999 magna cum laude graduate of Dickinson College, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physics. He went on to earn Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in physics from Bryn Mawr College. Ekey has been a member of the Mount Union faculty since 2009 and was named the 2013 Great Teacher.
The community luncheon series was conceived to take advantage of the local expertise from Mount Union faculty and staff in light of Mount Union’s exceptional academic reputation. This is an opportunity to gain practical knowledge on current topics and interact with members of the University and greater Alliance community.
The cost of lunch is $10. Payment will be accepted at the door, but space is limited. Lunch begins at noon, the program begins at 12:20 p.m. and the event concludes by 1 p.m. For more information or to make a reservation, contact Abby Honaker at Mount Union at (330) 829-8168 or email@example.com.
