Dr. John Strefeler Receives Ursel K. Albers Award
April 06, 2010
Dr. John Strefeler, professor of economics, accounting and business administration at Mount Union College, has been selected to receive the 2007 Ursel K. Albers Award ' Mentor of the Year Award.
Strefeler received this national award because of the outstanding contributions he made to the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) and his work with the Mount Union/IMA Student Accounting Club. He was nominated by Kris Parsons, a member of the accounting faculty at Ashland University and the incoming president of the Canton Area Chapter of the IMA.
Strefeler will be honored at the IMA Annual Awards Luncheon, which is a part of the IMA conference, on June 19 in Phoenix, Arizona where he will receive an engraved plaque.
'I was flattered and amazed just to be nominated for the award,' said Strefeler. 'To receive a national award of this nature left me speechless. There are a lot of dedicated and capable faculty at other colleges and universities who also do a marvelous job of mentoring students, so to be recognized in this fashion is very special. It also occurred to me that this is an honor that is as much a reflection on the Mount Union Accounting Club student leaders as it is on me - probably even more so because it is their hard work and dedication that ends up reflecting so well on me.'
A member of the Mount Union faculty for ten years, Strefeler has also taught at the University of Nevada - Reno and at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
