Dr. Marriott Named VP for Academic Affairs

Dr. Richard G. Marriott, who served as interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas from 1999-2001, has been named the vice president for academic affairs and dean of the College at Mount Union College effective July 1.
Dr. Marriott has been a faculty member in the Department of Psychology at Lamar since 1979 and has held the rank of professor since 1988. A 1968 graduate of Weber State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology/biology, Marriott earned his M.A and Ph.D. degrees in psychology from the University of New Mexico in 1975 and 1976 respectively.
Active professionally, he is a member of several academic societies and has authored dozens of articles in professional journals.
The appointment of Marriott concludes a nationwide search that was headed by Dr. Thomas Botzman, professor of economics and business administration. According Dr. John L. Ewing, Jr., president of Mount Union College, the search committee found three strong candidates for Mount Union.
"We are excited to have Rick Marriott join us as the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College," Ewing said. "He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge about the inner-workings of higher education. His faculty experience and administrative skills will be assets as the chief academic officer of the College."
