November 5, 2003
Mount Union College's Dr. Patricia Matthews, professor and department chair of the economics, accounting and business administration department, has been appointed to the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA)'s Accreditation Review Council.
The review council includes at least 60 individuals that have been selected by the Commission's Board of Trustees to participate in the Commission's review processes as readers and on review committees.
Matthews is also serving on a reading panel and is still serving as an active member of the Commission's Consultant and Evaluator Corps that conducts site visits to institutions and participates in other Commission decision-making bodies.
Matthews, a native of Alliance, has been a member of the faculty at Mount Union since 1975. She received her bachelor's degree from Mount Union and her master's and doctorate degrees from Kent State University.
In 2002, Mount Union College received continued accreditation without conditions for the next ten years, according to a report from the Higher Learning Commission of the NCA. "Accreditation without conditions" represents the highest designation awarded by the NCA.
