ALMA, Mich. - The Alma College Board of Trustees has unanimously selected Dr. Saundra J. Tracy as president of the College. Tracy, who is currently vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college at Mount Union College in Alliance, will begin her duties as Alma's 12th president Aug. 1, 2001.

"I am both honored and excited by this new opportunity and regretful that it means the end of my service to Mount Union College," Tracy said. "My time at Mount Union will always be remembered with extreme fondness. I have been fortunate to work with an excellent faculty and to serve under two outstanding presidents."

Dr. John L. Ewing, Jr., Mount Union's president, said, "Dr. Saundra Tracy has served Mount Union College in an exemplary fashion during the past three years as vice president for academic affairs and dean of the College. Her leadership skills and professionalism have been evident to everyone with whom she has worked. Mount Union's significantly improving academic reputation can be directly attributed to Dr. Tracy's guidance. While we are very sad to see her leave Mount Union, she will make an excellent college president and we wish her well at Alma."

Dr. Ewing said plans are being finalized to replace Dr. Tracy, which may include an interim arrangement followed by a national search for the vice president for academic affairs and dean.

Dr. Tracy has been at Mount Union since 1998. Prior to serving at Mount Union, she was dean of the College of Education at Butler University, professor and associate professor of educational leadership at Lehigh University as well as director of education programs at the Iacocca Institute at Lehigh. She earned her Ph.D. degree in educational administration from Purdue University, her M.Ed. degree in foreign language instruction from the University of Pittsburgh and her B.A. degree in Spanish from Carroll College in Wisconsin.
