MY EXCEPTIONAL STORY

Campus Connections
I have two uncles who are alums, as well as my high school math teacher, who all spoke very highly of Mount Union.

Department of Education
Mount Union has a highly-respected Department of Education. I was particularly interested in pursuing majors in both health and physical education, both of which Mount Union offers. The ability to add a minor in multi-age education was really appealing to improve my marketability after graduation.

Family Feeling
I love the personal family feeling at Mount Union. Everyone is extremely friendly, from the students and professors in the classroom to the AVI staff in the Kresge Dining Commons.

McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex
My favorite place on campus is the MAAC. I seem to spend a lot of time there, whether it is for classes, athletics, intramurals or just working out.

Library
The library is one place I would take a potential student. There are so many areas that seem to be unknown to most students, some of which are the best places to study.

Professor Encouragement
Mount Union is different for a number of reasons, such as the friendly atmosphere and small class sizes that allow students and professors to work together. Professors get to know you. They realize your potential both academically and personally.

Double Major
I am double majoring in physical and health education because not only do I have a passion for working with young students, but I also believe that because obesity is a growing problem in our country, it is important to teach the next generation healthy habits and lifestyles to reverse this trend.

Observing
I was able to get experience early on in my college career. In fact, I observed an elementary physical education program in just my second semester at Mount Union. This gave me a great opportunity to use what I learned from my education classes and apply it while working with my cooperating teacher and students.

Life-long Career
My favorite class so far has been principles and foundations of physical education. This class taught me practical skills for physical education and also affirmed that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life.

Passionate Professor
Dr. Bruce Pietz, assistant professor of human performance and sport business, has had a huge impact on me and my time at Mount Union. Not only is he one of my teachers and my advisor, but also someone I can call a friend. Dr. Pietz is extremely passionate about what he teaches and stays up on current changes in the field. He allows students to be hands-on in the classroom, and he gives students opportunities to attend conventions within the field, which allows students to further their professional development at an early stage of their academic career.

Changing Lives
My ultimate career goal is to teach elementary-level physical education and health. If I can help change a student’s life for the better by giving them the tools to live a healthy lifestyle, then all the hard work that I put in a Mount Union will be worth it.
