Eric Mansfield to Give Mental Health Awareness Lecture on October 8

Mount Union College Department of Psychology will hold its annual Mental Health Awareness Lecture Wednesday, October 8 at 7:30 p.m. in Campus Grounds of the Hoover-Price Campus Center.
The speaker for this event is Eric Mansfield, Channel 3’s Akron-Canton bureau chief. As both a soldier and a journalist, Mansfield will be addressing issues related to the mental health of returning veterans.
An Akron native with a bachelor of arts degree in journalism from the University of Dayton, Mansfield reports daily from WKYC’s Akron Broadcast Center.
Mansfield began his broadcasting career doing play-by-play sports announcing in college. In May 1994, Mansfield joined WKYC-TV3, Gannett’s NBC affiliate in Cleveland, OH as an Akron bureau reporter.
Throughout his career, Mansfield has assumed the additional duties as anchor of "Akron-Canton News" on Time Warner Cable and as host of the weekly reporters' roundtable, "NewsNight Akron," on PBS 45/49.
A major in the Ohio National Guard, Mansfield spent 14 months on active duty in 2003-2004 in Iraq and Kuwait and responded with other Ohio guardsmen to the Gulf Coast to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. He recently retired from the military after 20 years of faithful service.
Mansfield’s awards include an Emmy in 2000 for Outstanding Service Reporting and another in 1994 for Outstanding Live Reporting.
