Perfect Class Size
I love my class sizes. With having less than 20 people in a classroom, my classes are structured more like discussions rather than lectures. This teaching style helps me to understand the material more easily and allows students to get to know each other better.
Small School, Big Family
Mount Union offered the major that interested me, it is a gorgeous campus and I loved the idea of attending a smaller school. In fact, being on a small campus has made Mount feel more like home, because you get to know a lot more people. Everyone is always greeting each other on the sidewalks and professors notice when you do not attend class. You do not fall through the cracks at Mount Union.
Joining the organizations that I did have helped me adjust to college life. While I was in high school, I did not join very many clubs, so I decided to get involved on campus. I have met many of my friends though the organizations that I am involved in.
The thing that always stands out to me about Mount Union is the level of caring on campus. My professors encourage me attend their office hours if I do not understand information, and I have had professors email me when I have missed class to ask me if I am okay. My friends that I have made here have become my second family, and are always there for me. I do not feel homesick when I am on campus, because Mount Union has become my home.

Education beyond Alliance
The summer after my first year at Mount Union, I chose to study abroad in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Then, spring semester of sophomore year, myself and 14 other Mount Union students traveled with Dr. Himmelein to Germany. I cannot choose my favorite from these two, because they were both incredible experiences. I was able to learn about a completely different culture in Thailand- I swam in waterfalls, rode elephants, went bamboo rafting and lived with local tribes. In Germany, I was able to practice my German language skills and see different locations that we had learned about in class. I saw a soccer game at the Berlin Olympic stadium, visited where Bach is buried, saw the Brandenburg Gate and even visited a currywurst museum!
My favorite professor, so far, has been Dr. Himmelein. Originally, I was minoring in a different language, but I was not happy, so I went to his office one day and he convinced me to minor in German. Since then, I now have an appreciation for German culture. I travelled with Dr. Himmelein to Germany over spring break, and I knew that I wanted to one day live in Germany. Dr. Himmelein teaches German in an easy-to-understand way while also incorporating lessons about the German culture.
After graduation, I plan to apply for the Peace Corps. Afterwards, I hope to work for either a non-profit or an NGO. I dream about being able to have a career that allows me to travel all around the world. Mount Union is preparing me for my dream career by providing multiple opportunities to travel the world. In addition, I have taken numerous courses, such as Religions of the World and Problems of the Developing Nations, which will prepare me for a job working for an NGO or non-profit.
