Events Planned for Week of Welcome

The first day of classes will begin at the University of Mount Union on Monday, August 29, and Mount Union will kick off the 2011-2012 Academic Year with a week filled with fun events for all students.

Week of Welcome 2011: August 28 – September 4
Sunday, August 28
Raider Fest: Student Involvement Fair
5 – 7 p.m., Quad
This event is a chance for students to explore ways to get involved and be an active part of campus life. They will have the opportunity to learn more about student organizations, campus services, intramurals and volunteering.
Week of Welcome Kick-Off Event: The Dating Coaches
8 p.m., Mount Union Theatre
Dave and Ethan, the dating coaches, will be on campus to entertain and educate. Their crash-course will provide valuable dating information through reenactments of their own experiences, monologues, interactive exercises, videos and original songs.
Monday, August 29
Dueling Pianos
8 p.m.,Campus Grounds, Hoover-Price Campus Center (HPCC)
Join the Raider Programming Board (RPB) for a night of improvised comedy and music with Dueling Pianos. They will have attendees singing, shouting, dancing and laughing in no time! The request-driven show includes music ranging from songs of today to as far back as one can remember.
Tuesday, August 30
After Hours Tie-dye and Nachos
8 p.m., Campus Grounds, HPCC
Students are invited to enjoy nachos and t-shirt tie-dying with After Hours. Participants should bring their own t-shirt to tie-dye, but t-shirts will be available for purchase for $1.
Wednesday, August 31
Commuter Student Social
5 p.m., Alumni Room, HPCC
A social event has been planned for Mount Union commuter students. The RPB will provide another opportunity for individuals to meet and mingle with fellow commuters at this event, filled with food and fun!
Association of Women Students Welcome Back Event
6 p.m., Campus Grounds
The women of the Association of Women Students will hold its annual event, in which attendees can learn more about the organization and have fun.
Residence Life Socials
Check with hall staff for times and locations
Students will spend some time getting to better know the residence life staff and peers in their residence hall in a fun and social atmosphere. Each hall will plan their own event, so be sure to check with the appropriate hall staff for more details.
Thursday, September 1
Multicultural Student Affairs and Black Student Union Welcome Back BBQ
6:30 p.m., Campus Grounds
Join the Black Student Union at its Welcome Back BBQ. This event is held annually so that current faculty, staff and students can reunite as well as to introduce new and transfer students to the Mount Union family.
Friday, September 2
After Hours Movie in the Quad
9 p.m., Quad (rain location: Mount Union Theatre)
Students should bring blankets and lawn chairs out to the Quad for a drive-in movie. After Hours will provide candy, popcorn and pop.
Saturday, September 3
RPB Comedian Geoff Keith
8 p.m., Mount Union Theatre
Comedian Geoff Keith is sure to entertain as he has performed at numerous comedy festivals and on such shows as The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Live at the Gotham and Chelsea Lately.
