Exercise Science Students Attend Sports Medicine Meeting
November 11, 2014
On November 6-8, 25 students from the University of Mount Union’s exercise science program traveled to Merrillville, Indiana for the annual meeting of the Midwest chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine (MWACSM).
This year, a team of three students entered the Quiz Bowl Challenge, a Jeopardy-style competition and in their first-ever appearance, the team of senior Sean Donnelly of Willoughby, Ohio; senior Kara Opryskzo of North Canton, Ohio and senior Shae Fender of Akron, Ohio took third place out of 16 teams representing the six-state region.
In addition to the Quiz Bowl Challenge, student attendees had the opportunity to view current research investigations in the exercise science field, network with professionals and attend a Graduate School Fair. Support was strong for 2014 UMU alumna Chelsey Bruce ’14 as she presented her senior research thesis examining the impact of different shoe types on oxygen consumption and for Mount Union instructor Kelsey Scanlon, who won Outstanding Oral Presentation at the Master's level.
