Faculty Cello/Piano Recital to be Held August 26

Dr. Elaine Anderson and Dr. Maira Balacon will be presenting a faculty cello and piano recital on Tuesday, August 26 at 8 p.m. in Presser Recital Hall.
This program will include movements from Beethoven’s Sonata No. 1 in F Major for Piano and Violoncello, Op. 5, No. 1 and Rachmaninoff’s Sonata in G Minor, Opus 19 for Piano and Violoncello.
Balacon, assistant professor of music, has been teaching piano at Mount Union since 2005. Moving to the United States from Romania in 1992, she earned a bachelor of music degree in piano from Bowling Green State University, and master of music and doctor of musical arts degrees from the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, Ohio. She has received numerous awards both in her native Romania and the United States and has twice been the recipient of the prestigious Presser Music Award.
Anderson is an associate professor of music at Mount Union, teaching cello, chamber music, orchestral literature, theory and music appreciation classes and conducting the Repertory Strings chamber orchestra. She earned a bachelor of music degree in string education from Concordia College in Moorehead, MN, a master of music degree in performance and theory from the Manhattan School of Music and a doctor of musical arts degree in cello performance from the University of Alabama. A Mount Union faculty since 1997, Anderson previously performed with several orchestras in the Southeast and held teaching positions in Georgia and Alabama.
