Faculty Members Receive Promotions, Tenure

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The University of Mount Union has announced faculty tenure and promotions effective August 2014.

Dr. Melissa Askren-Edgehouse, chair of the Department of Education, was awarded tenure and promoted to associate professor and chair of the Department of Education. Askren-Edgehouse earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education from Mount Union, a Master of Education degree in administration and supervision from Ashland University and a Doctor of Education degree in educational administration and leadership studies from Bowling Green State University.

Morgan Bagley,director of athletic training education, human performance and sport business, was promoted to assistant professor. Bagley earned a Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training from Mount Union and a Master of Arts degree in exercise physiology from Kent State University.

Dr. Katherine Clark was awarded tenure and promoted to associate professor of human performance and sport business. Clark earned a Bachelor of Science degree in exercise science from Mount Union and Master of Arts in exercise physiology and Doctor of Philosophy in exercise physiology degrees from Kent State University. 

Dr. Grant Cook, Director of Choral Activities, was awarded tenure and promoted to professor of music. Cook earned a Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance and pedagogy from Heidelberg College and a Master of Music degree in choral conducting and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in historical musicology-ethnomusicology from Kent State University.

Dr. Len Cooper was awarded tenure and promoted to associate professor of communication. Cooper earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication, a Masters of Arts degree in media from The University of Akron and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in journalism and communication from The Ohio State University. 

Betsy Ekey was awarded tenure and promoted to associate professor of physician assistant studies. Professor Ekey has also been named the new director of the physician assistant studies program. Ekey earned a Bachelor of Science degree in medical science and a Master of Science degree in physician assistant studies from Alderson Broaddus College.

Michael Kachilla was promoted to associate professor of economics, accounting and business administration. Kachilla earned Bachelor of Arts and Master of Business Administration degrees from The Ohio State University.

Mark McConnell was promoted to associate professor of economics, accounting and business administration. McConnell earned a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing from Youngstown State University and a Master of Business Administration degree in marketing from Tulane University.

Dr. Kevin Meyer was awarded tenure and promoted to associate professor of psychology and neuroscience. Meyer earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology, a Master of Science degree in Human Development and Family Science: Early Childhood Developmentand a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Human Development and Family Science: Marriage and Family Therapy from The Ohio State University.

Dr. David Thiele was awarded tenure and promoted to associate professor of English. Thiele earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Kenyon College and a Master of Arts degree in Irish Studies and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in English from Boston College.
