Family Health Fair to be Held March 28 at Mount Union
March 26, 2010Students at Mount Union majoring in health will host a family health fair in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex (MAAC) on Sunday, March 28 from 1 to 4 p.m.
The health fair is made possible through a grant from Unitedhealth Heroes and the Office of Community Service and Service-Learning. The purpose of the event is to educate both the children and parents about living a healthier lifestyle. Topics will include risk factors, treatment and how to overcome childhood obesity. Information from the YMCA, Alliance Health Department, Unison and Dr. Janice Spalding will be available.
Throughout the afternoon, families can participate in many activities including WiiFit games, a yoga class, sports drills and nutritional education. Classes will also be offered for parents to learn about healthy cooking and how to prepare healthy snacks for their families.
Exercise science and athletic training students will be taking blood pressure readings and other Mount Union students will be distributing cookbooks they have developed.
The fair is free and open to the public. The McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex is located on Hartshorn Street. For more information, contact Dr. Beth Canfield-Simbro at firstname.lastname@example.org or (330) 823-4667.
