Fifth Annual Light Up the Lakes
March 28, 2017
ALLIANCE, Ohio- Members of the University of Mount Union and Alliance communities are invited to come together at the University of Mount Union campus lakes on April 7 from 7 – 9 p.m., rain or shine, for a floating candle vigil in remembrance of loved ones who have passed away.
This is the fifth annual Light Up the Lakes since its debut. Light Up the Lakes is in memory of Matthew Popovich, a brother of Alpha Phi Omega who passed away two years ago. All are invited to come and give a minimum of a $1 donation to float a candle, provided by Alpha Phi Omega, to remember a loved one. One hundred percent of the donations will be donated to the Alliance Food Pantry, a food pantry that gives away meals to those who need it most in the area.
Miranda Young '19, a sophomore Public Relations and Sport Business double major from Chesterland, Ohio discussed her inspiration for the event, “Last year I was able to participate in the event and witness just how amazing Light Up the Lakes is. It is a perfect way for the campus and community to come together and remember those whom we’ve lost and I hope to make the event just as special and memorable as past years.”
Floating candles will be available for donation only at the lakes.
